It seems our task today is to collect some data, and energy boxes from four different Abnormalities assigned to us today.

[There's a pause as he looks back at the screen with the four different Abnormalities he was told about earlier. Frankly, all of them look like they might kill someone the second they're in the same room with someone, but he decides to select "So No One Will Cry" to look at first pulled up on his screen to share.]

This one, despite appearances, perhaps might be the one worth checking on first--I assume that as long as these talismans are intact, the Abnormality will not act in a hostile manner. Does anyone want to volunteer themselves to observe this one on our behalf to make sure that is in fact the case?

that is okay!

[The employees look at each other.]

Company standard procedure is to work on all Abnormalities in a department simultaneously, one employee per Abnormality. [Charlotte.] This maximizes efficiency while keeping the employee death toll to one person in the event of a poor work result.

[See, this is why Azul prefers contracts and job descriptions given to him upfront in writing, so that he doesn't miss details like this and end up looking incompetent in front of the other employees.

However, he manages to hide his irritation to this rather well as he gives a tight smile.]

Ah, is that right? My apologies, I wasn't told that about the job here. In that case, if all four of you will be sent to see all four Abnormalities at once, allow me to ask: do any of you have a preference for which Abnormality you would prefer working with today, or am I also expected to assign each of you to each Abnormality myself without taking any of your preferences into account?

Usually if the question is “do I have to care what my employees think about this” the answer is no. [Brook, wryly.] But I like Will You Play, the ones that look like people are easier for me.

A good employee is flexible about the type of Abnormalities they are assigned to! [Alisa, clearly reciting something she was taught.]

Yeah, but it’s okay to have opinions? [Daniel.] Spiral of Contempt kind of creeps me out a little, so…. I’d rather not do that one?

I have no strong feelings about any of them. [Charlotte.]

[Azul thinks it over, before he seems to come to a decision.]

Fine. Brook, I'll have you assigned to "Will You Play", Alisa to "Spiral of Contempt", Daniel with "So No One Will Cry", and Charlotte with "Star Luminary". Will that be considered satisfactory for the four of you?

[General agreement and nods.]

You also need to select the work type. [Charlotte.] That usually influences the results more than which employee works, although not always.

I see. [Azul looks over his notes here, before he decides.]

Brook, you can try Attachment work with Will You Play. Alisa for Instinct with Spiral of Contempt, and... Daniel and Charlotte, how about Insight work with the abnormalities I assigned to the two of you?

[That seems like a safe bet to start with--making sure that Will You Play doesn't get upset by having someone talk and play with them (... provided it's harmless playing...), Alisa to make sure that Spiral doesn't look like something that needs to feed off blood or god knows what... and as for the latter two, they feel like the ones that need to be ensured that the rooms they are in are in good condition. Especially that "So No One Will Cry", it feels like making sure the talismans around the room won't peel off would be best...]

[The employees nod and head off to their assigned Abnormalities. The following things happen all at the same time.

Alisa takes a washcloth and starts working on cleaning the blood off of Spiral of Contempt, humming cheerfully as she does so. As soon as she has it clean, more blood appears from nowhere, and she frowns and tries to clean it up again with the same result. But there's no harm done to her, at least.

The meter on the left fills about halfway.]

[Brook enters Will You Play's chamber and waves.] Hey. What kind of games do you like to play?

[The girl perks up.] Rock paper scissors! Play a game with me! I'm going to throw... scissors!

[Brook blinks, but rolls with it. They shake their hands three times, and on the third shake, Will You Play throws scissors and Brook throws rock.

The Abnormality looks at their hands for a second, then smiles and says,]
You lose.

[Her hand transforms into a giant pair of scissors, and she cuts Brook's head off. He doesn't even have time to scream.

The meter on the left fills only a couple of boxes.]

[Charlotte enters Star Luminary's room and begins to sweep the floor. There are a number of glass shards on the ground that look like they might have come from one of the spheres the Abnormality is holding.

As she sweeps, the broom she's using starts to turn to glass, from the bottom to the top. She notices and drops the broom, but her feet have already started to transform as well.]

No... No! I don't want to die! Someone do something, Manager, anyone!

[The transformation continues unimpeded. Her legs turn into glass next, and up her torso and arms.]

Not like this, please, not like thi- [The glass reaches her mouth, and all she can do is look wildly around before her eyes and the rest of her head are glass, as well.

And then the glass statue breaks into shards. Star Luminary hasn't reacted at all during this process.

Two out of twelve boxes.]

[Daniel enters the So That No One Will Cry's room and begins inspecting the talismans around, more firmly applying some that had begun to peel off. The first couple go without incident.

He suddenly yelps in pain and reels back - a talisman-shaped hole has burned through his hand where he touched it.]

Wh-what - what am I supposed to-

[More holes start appearing on his body and spreading. He grips his chest before a hole appears where his heart is supposed to be, and collapses on the floor without another sound.

Two out of twelve boxes.]

[Sorry Alisa, give Azul a moment to respond, because he is currently sitting at the desk here with his head resting on his folded hands. As soon as he had realized that something was going wrong in the rooms other than yours, he had wanted to do something, anything to stop it.

He had looked everywhere on the desk or in the room for a button he could push, a door to run out of to try to find them, tried to get the attention of the employees that were in danger to tell them to run, even smashed a fist against the monitor when Charlotte specifically called for him out loud to do something, but ultimately everything happened so quickly that there probably wasn't anything he could have done, even if he had found the solution in time.

At least that's what Azul has to tell himself here, trying to calm down until Alisa returns, and he can at least feel a little relieved that she at least isn't dead.

He takes a breath, and then when Azul lifts his head again he looks serious, but not particularly heartbroken. He has to remind himself that it's not his fault that those other new employees died; genuinely, how was he supposed to know that any of that was going to happen? He can't be held liable for it, not when this stupid company didn't even give him a contract to read and sign first. Azul won't be so cold as to sound like he doesn't care, of course, but he will not sound panicked either when he answers Alisa's question. That won't help either of them.]

I'm sorry... but unfortunately, you were the only one that succeeded in the task you were given.
