What's wrong?

[ He seemingly speaks to no one but an empty room. His gaze, however, still shifts to the space next to him on the couch. ]

You wanted to remove me in order to save her. [ Reaching out, he runs his fingers over the cushion. ] And you did just that ... congratulations. [ He carefully adjusts his glasses by pushing them up at the corner of the frame. ] But you had to have known I would go somewhere.

[ The calm expression abruptly changes to a panicked one. Fear and overwhelming terror rips across his face as he jerks his head to the side, staring at the front door. But the moment passes; he returns to his serene look of before. ]

I see. "Mashita" is coming. You wanted to protect him. You mustered up all that but unable to even cry out. How pathetic. [ He pushes himself up to stand as he heads over toward the door. Even his movements are different from "Yashiki." Instead of the soft, careful steps; his steps are steady, determined and loud.

Opening the door, he greets the man with a cold, calculating smile. ]

So, you're Mashita. I expected you to be taller.

[Honestly, nothing could have really prepared Mashita for coming face to face with this scenario, even if he had been given any prior warning about it beforehand. "Yashiki" gets maybe the briefest raise of eyebrows to indicate that his words have an impact on him in some way before Mashita's mouth twists even further into an angry scowl.]

And I expected Yashiki to be less of an idiot, but it look like we'll both have to be disappointed today.

[He doesn't even wait for "Yashiki" to step aside and allow him entry: Mashita is already pushing past him into the entrance hall because if they're going to even entertain the farce of a "civil" conversation, it's not going to be with Mashita standing outside. He is however quick to turn back around to make sure that his back isn't exposed to "Yashiki" for even longer than a second once he's inside, giving the other man a onceover. Looking for what exactly has changed, any sign of a weakness that the... thing possessing Yashiki has unknowingly slipped, or perhaps for a sign of injury to Yashiki's body before he speaks.]

So who the hell are you supposed to be, anyway? Because you're sure as shit not Yashiki right now.

[It's hard to tell by the question if Mashita already knows the answer to this, if he had perhaps gotten a frantic phone call from someone about Yashiki's state beforehand. Or maybe he just wants to hear the spirit say it for himself regardless.]

I'm impressed.

[ "Yashiki" did not expect Mashita to shove past him to enter the manor. He actually nearly ended up losing his balance, but caught himself before an embarrassing fall. His fingers drum against the door before he closes it -- to him, it has a final sound to it. ]

I thought you would have started crying upon seeing him like this.

[ His voice is warped with twisted amusement. He lifts his hand to push his bangs out of his face, but they soon fall back over his eyes. ]

Your rude tone... [ He lifts his finger, making soft tsking sounds at him to scold him. ] I am the Master of the Mark. [ His shoulders give a little shrug. ] But it's better to consider me a god.

[ He doesn't mind explaining the situation, because he wants to see the despair on the man's face. ] This vessel figured out that Mary was the one I was possessing and thought to free her from my grip. You should congratulate him, because he did what no one else was able to do in hundred of years. [ "Yashiki" claps his hands together -- the clapping is just enough out of sync to feel wrong. ]

But that's not what is important... what's important is you, Mashita.

[That first part earns him a look of disbelief.]

Seriously? Then you really don't know me at all.

[He wonders, briefly, if this guy doesn't have complete access to Yashiki's thoughts and memories for him to have made that kind of judgement call about Mashita. Anyone who has known Mashita for more than five minutes knows that he isn't the type to get easily emotional like that--or rather, not the crying type of emotional. The pissed off type though? Definitely, as he's starting to regret even letting this bastard speak, for Mashita already wants to deck them in the face and wipe that stupid smirk off their face.

The fact that it's technically Yashiki's face is the only reason he hasn't done so sooner, but honestly, that kind of restraint probably not going to hold out for too long either the longer they talk here.]

I don't know, that sounded like something pretty fucking important you just said.

[In regards to the realization here that he's speaking with whatever the fuck was making that awful doll act out before. But Mashita currently has no sympathy for Mary even now: he's never spoken to or really known what the real Mary might have been like. Yashiki on the other hand... it doesn't surprise him at all that his partner would manage to find some sympathy for her in that ridiculously soft heart of his.

Mashita thinks of the dead spider Yashiki had picked up, and wishes more than ever that he had done something more about that than just giving Yashiki a warning about this personality of his.]

But alright, Mark--[His tone is flippant, sticking to that for now to identity them because there's no way in hell he's going to call this guy "Master" or "God"--]--what about me, then? Is this the part where you're going to taunt me into beating the shit out of you until you let go of Yashiki's body here?

Even the strongest person ends up breaking down upon seeing their loved one's suffering. [ He leans in a little, lowering his voice, like he is sharing a secret with Mashita: ] And he is suffering.

But I assume that even he would offer me sympathy. I assume that he would be willing to do something about my anger and resentment. [ He turns his head to start to laugh, truly and absolutely delighted at his host's reactions.

But the laughter immediately drops at the name that Mashita calls him. His lips curl into a snarl before he pulls back to his pleased smile of before. ]

I suppose I am being rude. [ He takes a step closer. ] I'm not explaining myself at all. You see... I plan to spread my curse across this entire world. I plan to take control of every vengeful spirit and drag more people into the depths of despair.

[ His eyes close. ] But that takes a lot of energy to do. Even with this body -- [ He lifts his hand to tap his chest a few times. ] -- it'd burn itself out.

And that's where you come in, Mashita.

[ His hand reaches out -- faster than probably could be suspected with how slow and careful that "Yashiki" has been moving -- to grab onto Mashita's tie and pull him closer. ]

You're going to be my consort. My concubine. [ His teeth flash as his smile widens. ] You're going to supply me your life's energy... and don't worry... I won't take it all. I'll even let you build it back up and take it from you again and again...

[ A weighted pause. ] And it's all out of respect for your relationship with my host.

[Mashita's eyes narrow further in distaste when the other man leans in close, leaning back in response to attempt to keep some semblance of space between them. Even if, as much as it angers him to admit it, the guy probably isn't wrong that Yashiki would be stupid enough to try to sympathize with the jackass possessing him right now. He'd like to believe otherwise, certainly, but the fact that he hasn't seen any slips indicating the real Yashiki under the spirit's control leads him to consider otherwise for the moment.

He has to resist the urge to roll his eyes when the spirit starts waxing on about spreading their curse and the depths of despair or what the fuck ever because that somehow manages to sound rather cliche in comparison to spirits he and Yashiki have dealt with in the past. He really hopes that Yashiki isn't actually having any sympathy for this guy in comparison to the spirits that died horribly at least.

But then he doesn't get a chance to think about that much longer when the spirit suddenly moves a lot faster than Mashita was prepared for, and he's even less prepared for what the bastard chooses to say upon grabbing him by the tie here. Under any other circumstance, it might have even been funny to see the face that Mashita makes in response to it, momentary shock making it's way past his normal wall of scowling... well, the spirit probably finds this funny at least even if no one else does.

... Though, maybe not for long because as soon as the word "host" leaves his mouth, Mashita finally makes good on his earlier thoughts by lifting his fist and proceeding to punch "Yashiki" as hard as he can in the mouth to get him to let go of his tie here, as well as wipe that stupid smirk off his face. His other hand has now gone to his coat to retrieve his gun just in case the spirit tries to come that close to him again, absolute malice laced in his tone when he speaks.]

Fuck, I knew you were going to say something twisted, but that's disgusting, even for something with Yashiki's face.

[All those times he had called Yashiki "gross" or a pervert for even the most platonic of gestures and statements... god, how ironic is that to come biting back now.

But then, he allows his own flash of teeth that's not really a smile so much as a snarl of grim satisfaction.]

But I guess I was right about this being the part where you'd find something stupid to say to get me to beat the shit out of you.

[And then, he's pointing his gun at Yashiki.]

Tell me, are you sure you really want to stick around in a body riddled with bullet holes? Because that's what's going to end up happening if you don't get the fuck out of Yashiki right now.

[ Of all the responses, he did not expect Mashita to actually hit him. This time, he didn't have himself balanced and hits the floor -- hard. The glasses fly off his face almost comically and one of the lenses break due to the impact on the ground. His shoulder slammed into the hard surface of the first and he rolls over partially on his side, letting out a choked gasp.

He coughs -- blood splattering on the tiled floor. It's more that he bit the inside of his mouth when he was struck than anything else. Pressing one hand against where he was struck, he looks back at Mashita. He breathes out heavy, fury twists his face to make him look even less like Yashiki. ]

Are you really going to shoot him? Do you think I'm stupid?

[ He turns his head to spit out a mouthful of blood. Running his hand hard against his mouth, black ooze spreads across the skin before it soaks into the flesh. The bruise from the hit immediately fades and he no longer is struggling with blood filling his mouth. ]

Don't answer that... [ Because he can already imagine what snide comment will come out. He starts to push himself up to stand. ] You won't shoot him.

[ He holds his hand out toward Mashita, fingers spread. ] Because, doesn't your wrist hurt? [ And indeed, there might be a familiar pain that he feels upon his wrist -- and a familiar bruise that has appeared on the skin, again. ]
markbearer: (WHAT THE FUCK)

[personal profile] markbearer 2021-02-22 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Mashita wishes he could get any satisfaction out of watching the spirit bleed even for a second, but he can't because it's Yashiki's blood on the floor, Yashiki's glasses that ended up broken from the fall.

And sure enough, he does start to open his mouth to say something snide at first, before he closes it. It's not his fault that you're the fool that thought it was a great idea to possess Yashiki, he thinks. He does glance down briefly at his wrist, teeth grit at the familiar pain that begins to sear into the skin there, but then his gaze goes back immediately to the spirit, keeping his gun raised.]

That just gives me all the more reason to want to shoot you.

[... But he doesn't. Not yet, anyway, because Mashita isn't stupid. Killing Yashiki probably won't remove the mark if the spirit decides to simply leave and hop over into someone else. It actually has to be exorcised in some way, but... fuck, this is the exact reason why he hates Yashiki getting into these situations. He could really use the other man's help right about now to give him some idea of how to actually do that, since Yashiki is supposed to be the actual expert in this matter in comparison to Mashita.

Which is why he momentarily allows his gaze to quickly sweep around the room they're in. Is there a clue here in the entrance hall that Yashiki may have left behind before he got possessed... then again, he wouldn't be surprised if the spirit managed to dispose of it beforehand, or if it's in another room somewhere in this stupid mansion. Fuck.]

[ Yashiki did, in fact, leave a clue to help those that might end up trapped in the manor. It is the same as when he dealt with the possessed Mary. He figured that the ancient being would not know much about technology -- and so he once again employed the use of a tape recorder, and shoved it under the couch. It was not as good a hiding place as the grandfather clock, but he feared that if it wasn't somewhere readily available that it would not be found in time. ]

Does it? [ "Yashiki" cannot keep his tone from sounding mocking, but then, he doesn't see any reason why he should. The man is beneath him and is to become his consort. There is no reason why he should pretend to be polite. ]

How is it? The fear that I could take your memories at any moment? [ He runs his tongue along his lips, like he could actually taste his fear in the air. ]

I could have you believe whatever I like after that... [ Just like Mary ended up having Yashiki believing every one of her little lies. Ah, well, that was him, as well, wasn't it? ] Perhaps it would be wise for you to get used to calling me "Master" sooner rather than later?

[ In fact... ] If you call me it... I might think about not taking your memories from you, Mashita.
markbearer: (HANDY DANDY NOTEBOOK)

[Mashita unfortunately also comes to the same conclusion that searching around the couch is his best bet for anything that might have been left in this room, but he doubts that the spirit will give him that chance to do so. Not easily, anyway, and thus he has to really think about what options he has here to try to get away with doing so.

And yes, he would be lying if he said that the idea of his memories being messed with doesn't scare him even a little. Sure, Yashiki did get his own back eventually, but he cannot trust that this thing would allow him the same courtesy, and it's sickening to imagine some version of himself that might dance along so much easier to this bastard's tune. Still, he tries to keep his facial expressions from giving this away, because if he does admit to it, then he has already lost this fight.]

I'd rather shoot myself than call you that. [There's a pause, and then--] Besides, I don't think you really want to mess around with my memories anyway.

[He has a plan now, sort of, as he seems to give off the appearance of losing interest in the conversation as he proceeds to walk over to the couch and sit down rather calmly, as if this really is just another normal day of coming over to Yashiki's house to hang out. He still has his gun out, but the goal is to have at least one of his hands free to carefully move behind his back, feeling to see if there's anything hidden in the couch here. The attempt is to make the motion fluid enough that it doesn't raise too many suspicions as he continues to speak.]

And do you wanna know how I know that? [He allows himself to sound snide enough to keep his bluff up.] Because what would the fun be in that? If I were you, I would personally find it really boring if I had to resort to just wiping someone's memories to get what I want. They wouldn't even be the same person anymore, not really. It'd be a lot more satisfying if you were able to get the person that's actually right here in the moment to comply as opposed to some blank slate, don't you think?

[He has no way of knowing if the spirit will fall for this, only the vain hope that playing on their rather massive ego might get them thinking about it long enough to allow Mashita to... well, not end up getting his memories wiped before he can find what he's looking for.]
reimaginedself: (5)

[ And Mashita might feel the corner of the tape recorder as it is buried in the cushion of the couch. ]

I don't?

[ He doesn't so much as click his tongue at Mashita sitting down on the couch like he owns it. But he supposes that he'll be lenient in allowing his consort to say what is on his mind -- while he still has his mind. ]

I suppose you have a point about that. [ His index finger taps lightly against his bottom lip. ] Wiping Masamune's memories just made a completely new person... a person that rejected who he once was. [ "Yashiki" can't help but bark out a laugh at that. ] However, it still didn't bring the fall of "Masamune."

[ If anything, Masamune "died" still feeling like he had succeeded.

He crosses the distance between the two of them, but careful not to move too quickly as to have Mashita shoot him on some panicked reflex. His expression drops -- the smug, pleased look fades away. When he lifts his head, he looks about in confusion and has one hand lightly pressed against his head. ]

... Mashita?

[ It really is only meant to throw the man off-guard so that he could reach his hands out onto Mashita's shoulders and climb up onto his lap. He wasn't sure he'd be able to do it without some subterfuge. The man should feel so lucky that I'm willing to play around like this with him. But he is my first and only consort, so spoiling is to be expected. ]

Comfortable, isn't it? Familiar, maybe? [ So he asks as he settles down against him. ] ... he doesn't want to share any of his memories with me about you. That's where all his fight is going... to prevent me from seeing his thoughts instead of taking back his body.

[ He leans in. ] Are you really that good?

[Thank God, it looks like he was right about something being hidden in the couch. But his focus is divided between trying to grab it and watching "Yashiki", especially when the other man starts moving toward him. The other man had the right idea to not approach hastily because then he probably would have ended up getting shot for that.

It also means that Mashita does see the shift in expression, and for exactly one hopeful second, he thinks that maybe Yashiki did manage to fight past the control the spirit had over him. But before he can even say anything, "Yashiki" is in his lap and he wants to slap himself for allowing that slip even for that mere second. His hope has been dashed, thanks asshole.

He has to resist the urge to shove him off, if only because he hasn't managed to grab the tape recorder just yet, plus he needs to be able to pocket it without the spirit noticing once he gets his hands on it. For now, he only raises his eyebrows and sounds extremely annoyed upon hearing that because, really Yashiki, really?]

Goddamnit Yashiki, seriously? That's what you're spending all of your effort on here? I should have known you'd be enough of an idiot to worry about that more than fighting this jackass off properly.

[That's both sweet and horribly stupid, really. He'd almost be touched if Mashita wasn't certain that the spirit might end up killing him or someone else if he doesn't leave Yashiki's body sooner than later.]

Aren't you rude?

[ He pulls one hand off Mashita's shoulder so that he could grab onto the man's chin. His smile twists on his face as he looks fondly at him. ]

You should be talking to me. [ That is what irritates him the most. He's the one that is in control of the body not Yashiki. So, his consort should be focused on him instead of the spirit of his host. ]

I'll certainly take good care of you. [ His other hand strokes the side of Mashita's face. ] You'll live well in the world that I plan to create. [ He drops his voice down to a whisper. ] And I do like your offer of allowing you to keep your memories while everything around you burns...

[ Indeed, he finds himself quite pleased with that thought. A faint flush touches his face; it burns down the rest of his body as he becomes aroused at the idea of what a miserably, beautiful state that his beloved consort will be in.

His eyes abruptly go hazy before he jerks back to gasp, half-strangled and confused -- ]

[Mashita scowls at him when the spirit grabs his face and forces him to look the man in the eyes, one that quickly turns into a mix of disgust and confusion at watching the way that the spirit is clearly getting off to this idea while sitting on top of him.

It gets Mashita squirming uncomfortably under him, but not really able to put any distance between them at this point. It's not really an opposition to having Yashiki this close to him, but because of the fact that it's something else wearing Yashiki's skin as opposed to the real thing, even if his own stupid hormones are reacting in some way to it all the same. What a confusing mess.

But the spirit seems well and truly distracted enough for Mashita to finally get his hand around that tape recorder and start sliding it out of the couch to slip into his coat pocket here... before the body on top of him suddenly jerks and gasps, and a much more familiar tone of voice speaks.]

Yashiki!? Are you...

For now, I am. [ Yashiki shifts his gaze to empty space of the couch. ] He got ... distracted.

[ That is probably the best way to put it. Sending a spirit that's possessing him into a figurative box inside his metaphysical body -- it just isn't how he expected to be spending his time. And it really is only a temporary solution to the problem at hand.

The multiple problems at hand -- ]

I... [ What is the correct thing to say in this situation? He's feeling all hot and heavy because a spirit possessing him got drunk on its own power related to someone he cares deeply about? ] I'll get off you.

[ His mouth shuts so fast as he struggles with what he's saying again before just trying to stand up so he's no longer straddling Mashita. ] And really, you shouldn't have come, ah -- arrived here. What were you thinking? You just ended up cursed, again... [ Yeah, let's focus on that point! ]

[Mashita will let Yashiki get up off of him, but he doesn't let Yashiki get very far from him, reaching out to grab Yashiki by the wrist once the tape recorder had been discreetly placed in his pocket.]

What was I thinking? What about you?! You're the one who apparently thought it was a good idea to get involved in being possessed by the same bastard that made that doll go nuts!

[Yashiki can probably see the mark burning on Mashita's wrist, but the man himself seems to barely pay it any mind with his focus on Yashiki for now.]

If you seriously thought that I was just going to sit around and just let that kind of bullshit happen without doing something about it, then you're even more of an idiot than I've ever thought of you, Yashiki.

[ Yashiki is a little surprised when his wrist is grabbed, but he soon is glaring at the hand. Well, not the hand, but the mark on the wrist. ]

None of that was Mary's fault! [ Somehow, he feels like he has to defend her because she isn't present to defend herself ... because no one else has been able to do anything for her. ]

This is a matter that the Kujo started. [ He has to pause to let a few labored breaths. Even being mad at Mashita as he is, it isn't doing much to help his current situation. Arguing while in a heated state, he didn't realize it'd be such a task. ]

There's no one left to take responsibility for it, but me! So, what do you expect me to do? Let it remain in Mary where it'll be a problem years from now!?
markbearer: (WHAT THE FUCK)

[Oh for fuck's sake Yashiki--]

I'm not saying it was her fault, or even anything about your damn sense of responsibility.

[Even if it does not surprise him at all to hear that Yashiki would still feel responsible in some way even now.]

Just because it's something the Kujos started doesn't mean you have to be the only one to deal with--did it even occur to you to ask for help or even for a second opinion before doing this? Maybe we could have talked about this and... That --

[ He struggles with an answer for what is said. ]

I couldn't ask for help. [ His gazes shifts away from Mashita - uncertain if he's feeling guilty or still angry for him even suggesting that he should ask for assistance. ] I didn't want anyone to end up hurt because they wanted to help me.

[ Three people were sent to the hospital because of him. Because he couldn't figure out that Red Riding Hood wanted only him. If he had understood that from the beginning, no one would have gotten hurt at all. ]

It isn't like it can be shoved somewhere like that... it's an old god. It would've just broken out and possessed the nearest person, anyway. [ But it is like him to think of something like that. He pauses as he looks back to Mashita. ]

This isn't something I thought of recklessly! I put some real thought behind it! [ Honestly! This wasn't his first choice! If he could have just exorcised it from Mary, that would have been nice. So, while not first, it was the immediate second. ] Why can't you trust this decision?!

[ It's the safest for everyone! Sort of! ]

[Mashita lets Yashiki speak, until he poses that question. That gets Mashita's teeth to grit in anger, and perhaps even a touch of being upset here by that.]

How can I trust that decision, when you apparently can't even trust us enough to try to help you!? Yes, I get it, you don't want anyone getting hurt, but that's also why you talk to us so that we can come up with a plan that involves the least amount of pain for everyone instead of just letting you be the only person that gets hurt this badly!

[His grip on Yashiki's arm tightens, giving away just how genuinely afraid he is of losing Yashiki because of this self-sacrificing nature of his.]

I trust you, but ...

[ Yashiki tries to pull his arm back out of his hold. ]

I don't want you to be hurt because of me. [ His mouth opens as he sucks in a breath. I love you. He stumbles over those words and lets his chin drop. ...I love you. Yashiki brings his teeth together before starting again.

Those words are too difficult to say, so he goes with something else entirely. ]

You're my partner... that's why I know everything would be all right even if everything went wrong. That'd you be able to carry out the exorcism even if it meant I'd have to go with it.

[He's right that Mashita will do this exorcism if he has to--not even because of the mark that now burns on his own wrist, but because Yashiki would not forgive himself if he had been left alone to let the spirit have free reign to spread their curses to everyone else in the world.

Even if he thinks he prevented his friends from getting hurt by not calling upon them for assistance on this matter, the truth is that he's only delayed their eventual suffering, if nothing is done about the Mark.

... But, even so...]

That shouldn't have to be the only choice here. I want to find a solution that means saving you, too, before I resort to letting you just be another victim of this bastard. I...

[I love you.]

It's because you're here. It's because I also don't want to lose you and be unable to do anything about it.

Fine. Let's try to find it, then. [ A slight pause. ] But if we can't...

... Yeah, I get it.

[Mashita doesn't finish that sentence properly either, but tries to make it clear in his own way that he understands. As much as he would absolutely despise it, how much it would probably kill him if not physically then definitely emotionally... if all options are exhausted, then he'll do what needs to be done.]

But until then, don't you be giving up without a fight, understand? You keep doing everything you can from letting it try to kill you in there.

Right...

[ Yashiki struggles with what else that he wants to say. He can only nod his head in agreement with what Mashita's saying. He'll keep fighting -- and, he suddenly realizes that this will be the first time that he's fighting for something that he wants.

His life has been one where he's given most of it to those around him. This act, too, started as one to make amends for what the Kujou have done, and to protect everyone from what's being housed inside him. But it's now also wanting to keep living so he can remain with Mashita. ]

Right. [ He repeats the word, feeling his throat close up a little. ]
